How to attach a Funtec net to Funtec posts

Note: start with the Funtec posts at 9.8m apart at the sand height as with the outward lean on the posts this will easily be 10m apart at the top of the posts.

  1. Attach the top rope by the end with the plain loop to the carabiner clip on the post that has the pulleys and red tension rope. Ensure the top rope sits over the wheel on the top of the post. Also ensure the red tension rope is fully released so the carabiner clip is as high up the post as possible.

  2. Attach the other end of the top rope which should have a black piece of rope already attached to the end of the top rope. This black rope will have holes in it at even spaces and you can use this to pull the net as tight as possible and slide over one of the metal lugs on the post. If you can get the metal loop to go over a lug even better. You want the net as tight as possible at this stage to give yourself more tensioning ability with the tension system. Put enough tension on the net with the red tension rope just to get the net straight at this stage.

  3. Attach the bottom white rope to the posts. Start with one side and just put a loop at the end of the rope and put the loop over the lug. On the new funtec posts this should be the 3rd lug down. On the older posts there is just one lug which is moveable up and down. The bottom white rope should be going straight across to the post, there should be no slight up or down angle on this rope.

  4. Attach the 2nd side by putting the bottom rope over the 3rd lug and bringing the end back towards the net. Put a loop in the rope where the end of the rope would just reach too and then thread the end through the loop and use it to pull the bottom rope as tight as you can. On a new net you may need to redo this after a day or 2 as the rope will stretch some. The bottom rope being tight makes a huge difference to the ball being played off the net so its important this is as tight as possible. Tie the end with a slip knot only so that it can easily be undone. Any other knots are likely to get tighter and harder over time especially with being exposed to the elements and getting wet etc.

  5. Once the top and bottom ropes are both connected and tensioned, use the red ropes to centre the net and tie it off so it can't slide. Use either the loops in the red ropes to put over the lugs or bring the rope back on itself and tie off by putting the end through one of the loops. Again use a simple slip knot so it can be easily undone. The bottom red ropes should go on the 2nd lug down (1 above the white net cord).

  6. You should be able to adjust the net height up or down on a fully tensioned Funtec net without releasing any tension. Sometimes however the posts may stick and tension may need to be released. This is more likely on some older posts or non maintained posts. Replacing broken or worn parts with genuine parts and looking after your posts and attachments when transporting and storing them and using some lubricant such as WD40 occasionally should ensure longevity and ease of use.
